An O-ring creates a leak-proof seal between two surfaces by compressing a circular elastomer ring into a groove. The material is chosen for resilience and chemical resistance so that it maintains pressure without hardening or cracking over repeated heating and cooling cycles. In coffee machines, these seals keep water, steam and coffee oils from leaking at joints, pumps and valves, ensuring consistent pressure and flow for brewing and steaming.
To install, the operator first shuts off the machine and releases any residual pressure. The old O-ring is removed from its groove, the seating area is cleaned of scale or residue, and the new O-ring is seated evenly without twisting. Once the mating surface is replaced and tightened, the machine is restarted and checked for leaks under normal operating pressure.
This O-ring is made of VMQ (silicone) with a Shore A hardness of 70, giving it the flexibility to conform to minor imperfections in the metal while resisting the temperatures and solvents found in coffee equipment. The red colour aids visual identification during maintenance.
The 8 mm inside diameter and 2 mm cross-section match the groove dimensions of specified SCHAERER coffee machines, ensuring a precise fit without over-compression or slippage.
Regular inspection and replacement of O-rings prevent leaks that can disrupt service and damage internal components. Cleaning is limited to wiping the installed ring with a damp cloth; solvents or abrasives can degrade the silicone and shorten its service life.
Fits selected SCHAERER coffee machines as listed in the manufacturer's spare-parts catalogue.
