An O-ring creates a seal between two mating surfaces by compressing its circular cross-section into the groove. The elastic material deforms under pressure, filling microscopic gaps and preventing leaks of liquids, steam or gases. This sealing principle is used wherever a joint must remain tight under varying temperatures and pressures, such as in espresso machines, bean grinders, and hot-water boilers.
To install, the operator first ensures the mating surfaces are clean and free of old sealant. The O-ring is then stretched slightly and seated into the groove without twisting. Once the joint is reassembled, the compression of the ring forms the seal. No additional tools or lubricants are required beyond those used to disassemble the equipment.
This O-ring is made from EPDM rubber with a hardness of 70 Shore A, a measure of its resistance to deformation. The black colour is standard for this material and does not affect performance. EPDM is chosen for its resistance to heat, water, steam and some cleaning chemicals, making it suitable for the high-temperature, high-pressure environments of professional beverage equipment.
The dimensions of 5.28 mm internal diameter and 1.78 mm cross-section determine which grooves it fits. These measurements must match the original part exactly to ensure the seal is neither too loose nor too tight, both of which would compromise the joint.
Regular inspection of the O-ring for cracks, hardening or permanent deformation is part of routine maintenance. When signs of wear appear, the ring should be replaced to maintain the integrity of the seal. Cleaning is limited to wiping with a damp cloth; solvents or abrasives can degrade the rubber and shorten its lifespan.
This spare part is designed for compatibility with SCHAERER coffee and beverage equipment, including espresso machines and automatic drink systems. It is listed in the manufacturer's spare parts catalogue under article number 3303984000.
