ILVE kitchen appliances for the home – Italian design and professional cooking every day
In some kitchens the cooker is just an appliance; in others it is the centre that family and guests gather around. ILVE is an Italian manufacturer that has been building range cookers since the middle of the last century — cookers that look like furniture and cook like restaurant equipment. In this article we explain how the ILVE series differ, when to choose gas and when induction, which built-in appliances complement the range, how to install and care for them, and what a full set costs.

01 Short answer: who ILVE is for
ILVE is not the cheapest way to make dinner. It is the choice of someone for whom the kitchen is part of life, not just a room with a fridge.

03 Gas, induction or both: how an ILVE range works
An ILVE range can have gas burners, induction or a combination. In most models the oven is electric with a fan.

05 Safety in the home kitchen
A professional-power appliance at home needs the same respect as in a restaurant. The key principles:
- Gas appliances are installed and connected only by a certified gas engineer, who checks the joints for leaks afterwards.
- ILVE gas hobs have a safety valve: if the flame goes out, the gas supply is cut.
- A carbon monoxide (CO) detector is recommended in rooms with gas appliances, and the hood or ventilation should always run while cooking.
- Induction hobs have a child lock and a residual heat indicator. If someone in the family has a pacemaker, follow the manufacturer's instructions and consult a doctor.
- Oven glass and body get very hot, especially a pizza oven at up to 400 °C. Children need to know not to touch it.
- Use long heat-resistant gloves, not a tea towel.

07 Choosing and a simple calculation
Five questions help you choose.
- How you cook — lots on the hob — more burners; lots of baking — a bigger oven or two ovens
- Energy — gas, induction or both; whether the building has gas and what electrical capacity is available
- Width — 60, 70, 90, 100, 120 or 150 cm; the hood at least as wide as the range
- Style — series, colour, handles; whether the range will match the furniture
- Extra appliances — pizza, steam or combi oven, warming or vacuum drawer, blast chiller
A simple calculation: what the heart of an Italian kitchen costs
Assumption: a family house, a 90 cm range, a matching hood, a separate pizza oven and a warming drawer.
Set total (excl. VAT): €10,375.00
What it means
08 Installation: space, gas, electricity, ventilation
A correctly installed appliance works more safely and lasts longer. Before ordering, discuss with BHS and your builder:
- Space: about 15–20 cm of free worktop on both sides of the range and a stable, level floor; for built-in ovens, the niche and ventilation gaps specified by the manufacturer.
- Electricity: separate protected circuits for the induction hob and the oven. Power and number of phases are calculated by an electrician.
- Gas: natural gas or LPG with the correct injectors; the connection is made by a certified engineer.
- Ventilation: a hood no narrower than the range, a 15 cm outlet, as short and straight as possible. Height above the range per the manufacturer's instructions.
- Building in: the HCB90SDN gas hob needs an 83.5 × 47.5 cm cut-out; check it before ordering the worktop.
- First use: remove protective films, heat the empty oven as instructed and air the room.
Tip
09 Everyday use, care and common mistakes
ILVE appliances are built for a long working life if they are cared for regularly.
- Burners: once cool, wipe the caps and grates; clean the flame ports with a soft brush, not a needle.
- Cast-iron grates: wash by hand and dry.
- Induction: clean with a ceramic hob scraper and cleaner; do not slide cast-iron pans.
- Oven: wipe while still warm after greasy dishes; check the door seal.
- Hood: wash the metal filters in the dishwasher or by hand regularly, depending on use.
- Stainless steel: wipe along the grain; abrasives leave scratches.
Common mistakes
- Burner will not light or goes out — dirty ignition plug or thermocouple, wet burner; Cause: clean and dry; if that fails — service
- Yellow, sooty flame — cap seated wrongly or dirty ports; Cause: seat correctly, clean
- Induction does not detect the pan — non-magnetic or too small pan; Cause: magnet test, matching diameter
- Oven bakes unevenly — overloaded, not preheated, damaged seal; Cause: preheat, bake on fewer levels, replace the seal
- Hood noisy and weak — clogged filters, long duct with bends; Cause: clean filters, check the duct
