Induction Cooktop Surfaces for Ships

Induction cooktop surfaces for ships are professional marine-class induction cooking surfaces designed for use on cargo vessels, passenger ferries and other sea transport with routes through ports. Induction technology provides direct magnetic heating in the cookware rather than on the surface, meaning less heat dispersion in the ship’s space, lower fire safety risk and significantly higher energy efficiency compared to traditional electric hobs. Marine-class induction surfaces are made from reinforced glass-ceramic with AISI 316 frames and a fixing system that ensures safe operation in rough sea conditions.

Induction cooktop surfaces for ships combine energy efficiency with culinary precision and provide fast, controlled heating in the ship’s galley and on international routes. For ships with limited generator capacity, induction allows maximum use of available electrical power with minimal heat loss.

Types of induction cooktop surfaces for ships

Professional induction cooktop surfaces for ships are available in several types to suit the needs of the ship’s galley. Single-zone induction surfaces are compact, with one induction coil; suitable for small ships with limited space and basic cooking needs. Two-zone induction surfaces have two independent heating zones for parallel cooking of different dishes on one surface. Four-zone induction surfaces are full-size professional induction cooktops with 4 independent heating zones, ideal for medium and large ship galleys. Drop-in marine induction surfaces are built-in models for integration into the ship’s galley block for permanent installation. Also see Electric Hobs for Ships.

Marine technical parameters

Marine versions of induction cooktop surfaces have special parameters for stable operation in sea conditions. Reinforced glass-ceramic is a tempered glass-ceramic surface with additional impact and vibration resistance for marine use. AISI 316 frame is stainless steel for the frame and structure with higher corrosion resistance in salt air. Pot fixings are magnetic or mechanical fixings around each heating zone to prevent cookware from moving in rough seas. Frequency regulator is electronics adapted for marine models to ensure stable operation in conditions of ship power supply fluctuations. Power is 1,5–3,5 kW per zone; total power 6–14 kW. Voltage options are 220V/50Hz and 110V/60Hz. Also see electric griddle surfaces for ships.

Compatible cookware

Induction cooktop surfaces only work with magnetic cookware, and this must be considered when assembling the ship’s galley equipment set. Compatible cookware includes stainless steel pots and pans with a magnetic base; cast iron pots and pans; enamelled cast iron and steel. Incompatible cookware includes aluminium pots and pans without a magnetic base; copper, ceramic, glass. Induction cookware is characterised by a magnet sticking to the base—a simple test method. Also see Electric Stove with Oven for Ships.

HoReCa use scenarios

Cargo ship with an energy-saving task—induction cooktop surfaces provide 40–50% energy savings compared to electric hobs; important for ships with limited generator capacity. Passenger ferry with a premium restaurant—induction surfaces in the restaurant galley for fast, precise and energy-efficient cooking for a large number of passengers. Yacht with modern equipment requirements—a modern induction surface as part of a high-end yacht galley with a clean and easy-to-clean surface.

Frequently asked questions

Are induction cooktop surfaces suitable for sea conditions? Marine-class induction surfaces with reinforced construction and fixings—yes. Contact BHS. See Electric Hobs for Ships.

Does it matter what cookware is used with induction? Yes—only magnetic cookware (steel, cast iron).
