Ironing is a stage where a laundry either saves or loses. Hand-ironed bed linen takes up staff time, and staff is the most expensive resource. An ironing roller does the same job several times faster and with a result that cannot be achieved with an iron.
The Danube range of ironing rollers starts with wall-mounted models for small flat laundry and ends with the ø650 mm GIGA series for industrial laundries. Danube states that rollers are available in several working widths and with two heating methods to suit different-sized establishments.
The diameter determines output. The larger the roller, the more heat it retains and the faster the laundry passes through.
Available as an optional extra: a system that automatically adjusts the ironing speed according to the detected laundry moisture. This means the operator does not have to guess how slowly to feed wetter laundry, and the result is consistent even when batches differ.
Three questions decide the choice: how many kilograms of flat laundry need to be ironed per day, how wide the largest pieces are, and how much space is available in the laundry room. A double bed sheet requires at least a 1.6 m working width; if there is not enough space, look at compact models with folding.
Can laundry be placed on the roller directly from the washing machine?
Yes, if the machine has a high spin. Danube states that the D-BM series models allow drying and ironing directly from a high-spin machine in one operation. This saves time and allows the drying stage to be skipped for flat laundry.
Which working width should I choose?
Based on the largest piece you will iron. A double bed sheet usually requires at least 1.6 m, but larger sheets need 2 m. If the roller is too narrow, the laundry must be ironed in two passes, and the savings disappear.
Electric or gas?
If the establishment has a gas connection, the gas model is usually cheaper to operate, as ironing requires a lot of heat. The electric model is simpler to install and does not require a flue.
How many kg per hour can actually be ironed?
For ø325 mm models, Danube states from 18 to 42 kg per hour depending on the width. The actual result depends on the fabric, moisture and how quickly staff feed the laundry.
What are Nomex belts?
Heat-resistant belts that press the laundry against the roller. They provide better ironing quality and last longer than standard material. They are a wear part that must be replaced over time.
Is roller maintenance complicated?
Daily maintenance involves cleaning the surface and monitoring the condition of the belts. Skinplate and stainless steel panels are cleanable in accordance with RABC requirements, which is important in healthcare facilities.
Is the roller suitable for shirts and uniforms?
The roller is designed for flat laundry — sheets, tablecloths, tea towels, napkins. Shirts and uniforms require presses or ironing tables, which are in the finishing equipment section.
