A gas-powered charcoal grill combines the flavour of charcoal cooking with the control of a gas supply. Two independent burners beneath the charcoal bed heat the coals evenly, eliminating cold spots and allowing precise temperature adjustment across the grill surface. The charcoal remains the primary heat source, searing and smoking food while the gas flames maintain the heat without the need to replenish fuel during service.
To operate the grill, the charcoal is spread across the bed and ignited. The gas burners are then lit and adjusted to hold the desired temperature, monitored by the built-in controls. Food is placed directly on the grill bars above the charcoal, where it cooks from radiant heat and smoke. The dual 7 kW burners allow separate control of each side, so one half can be set hotter for searing while the other remains at a lower temperature for slower cooking.
The grill is constructed as a single unit with a stainless steel exterior and a worktop-sized footprint of 800 mm by 600 mm. At 70 kg, it is a freestanding appliance that can be positioned on a worktop or a matching stand. The 270 mm height allows it to fit beneath standard extractor canopies without modification.
Controls consist of two gas valves, one for each burner, and a flame failure safety device that cuts the supply if the flame is extinguished. The valves adjust the gas flow to regulate the heat output, giving the operator direct control over the cooking temperature.
A power rating of 14 kW indicates the total gas load the grill places on the supply. This requires a dedicated gas line capable of delivering the required flow rate, typically installed by a registered gas engineer in a commercial kitchen. The 800 mm width means the grill occupies a full worktop section, so it is positioned where space allows for safe operation and ventilation.
Cleaning involves removing the grill bars and ash pan after each service to clear ash and food debris. The stainless steel surfaces are wiped down with a damp cloth and mild detergent, while the gas burners are checked periodically for blockages to ensure even heat distribution.
The L61GZ is a single model with no variants. It is categorised under gas charcoal grills in the professional catering equipment catalogue.
